Daniel Grimes, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, University of Oregon. He received his DPhil from the University of Oxford and completed postdoctoral training at Princeton University. His research focuses on how motile cilia and cerebrospinal fluid flow regulate vertebrate body axis formation and spinal morphogenesis. Using genetic, imaging, and biomechanical approaches in zebrafish, his lab investigates how cilia-dependent signaling, neuromuscular activity, and extracellular structures such as the Reissner fiber are integrated to control tissue mechanics and structure during growth. His work has implications for understanding the developmental origins of spinal disorders, including idiopathic scoliosis.
